Some people want money, some people want fame, some want a family and some want love. We need to work hard for what we want and that is a fact. Like wise, some people marry for love, some people marry for fame, some because they want a family of their own and others just because they feel that they are ready for marriage or maybe because the people they know are getting married. Whatever may be their reason, the end result is that they want to get married, and the fact remains that they should get married to someone whom they are actually compatible with, someone who has a similar mind-set as theirs, someone who they will get along well with and can match them with their mental capacity. Because, otherwise the marriage is bound to fail if the individuals are not compatible with each other. And no one shows their true colours initially, and at times, people who have been together for years are surprised when they start living together after marriage to see their partner act in a way they would have never thought their partner was capable of acting. That is why kundali matching is needed because it tells us how exactly the individual is and that allows the Astrologer to decipher through analysis and calculations if the individuals that are about to get married are compatible with each other or not.
What is Asthakootmilan in kundali matching and what does it do?
So, kundali matching is the matching of the janamkundalis of the individuals who are about to get married and these janamkundalis are the astrological birth charts that tell us everything about them on the basis of their exact birth details like date and time of birth, as well as the place of birth of the individual. The janamkundalis of the individuals tell us about the likes and dislikes, the dominant personality traits, the level of ambition they have or possess, their passion, their most compatible and suited life partner, and so on. So, obviously, when the janamkundalis are matched we come to know if they are compatible or not. But going further in detail, we come to know that there is another method that is included in the kundali matching and it is called the Asthakootmilan process.
Now, what is this Asthakootmilan?
There are eight important kootas (namely the Varna koota (one guna), Vasyakoota (two gunas), Tara koota- (three gunas), Yoni koota (four gunas), Grahakoota (five gunas), Gana (six gunas), Bhakootkoota (seven gunas) and the Nadikoota which has an eight gunas) in kundali matching and all of them have a different number of gunas. Now these gunas play an important role in kundali matching as the compatibility of the couple is calculated on the basis of these gunas. To be more specific and to give a detailed explanation for you to understand the Asthakootmilan process in a much better way, the sum total of all these gunas are thirty sixgunas, and to have a probable and approved match, the match is supposed to score at least eighteen gunas or more out the thirty six. And if the match does not score more than eighteen gunas out of the sum total of thirty sixgunas, then the match is not advised and is inauspicious as the match has failed the compatibility test.
Marriage is an extremely sacred union which binds two individuals together for a lifetime. Not only does it bind the two individuals, it also binds their families together. Emotional compatibility between the individuals, mental understanding between the individuals, and the sexual compatibility between them plays a very important role in a marriage being successful. If even one of these factors are not matched well, the marriage is bound to be an unhappy one and lead to constant fights and sadness which will even affect their family members and traumatize their children if they have any. If the match is not compatible, it is better that the couple does not take their match forward as it would save them a great deal of heartbreak and agony later.
